CLINICA EXCELLENCE IN CARDIOLOGY

Mr.V.Pola Rao, who is a resident of Vijayawada, had an Acute Myocardial Infarction 3 months ago. He also developed Ventricular Septal rupture after that which is considered a rare and dangerous sequel of Myocardial Infarction with 99% mortality. Patient survived this complication albeit with recurrent hospital admissions for heart failure. Patient’s physical function was greatly limited and was symptomatic with breathlessness for most of the period. He visited several corporate hospitals in Vijayawada and was advised to go to Hyderabad due to the complexity of the medical condition and high risk involved in the surgery. With loosing hopes he finally visited the team of Doctors at Dr.Pinnamaneni Siddhartha Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Foundation for a final consultation. Here the team of doctors, Dr. Sampath Kumar-Professor and HOD, Dr.V S R Bhupal-Assistant Professor and Dr.K C Karthik Naidu-Assistant Professor from the Department of Cardiology analyzed the patient’s condition and chalked out a plan. The plan was to not to subject the patient for surgery and deal with interventional techniques.

A two staged approach was considered wherein in the first stage patient underwent Coronary Angioplasty. The second stage was rather more challenging and after meticulous planning was finally carried out successfully. The procedure done was device closure of the post Myocardial Infarction Ventricular Septal rupture. It was a rare and complex procedure and to our knowledge the first of the one to be performed in the new state of Andhra Pradesh.

Post procedure the patient showed significant improvement and is finally being discharged after 1 week of hospital observation.

The entire procedure was carried out free of cost under Dr.NTRVS Scheme
